Week of 8/11/14-8/18/14
In these two weeks, we have completed Baseline testing. A Baseline test is to assess what skills students have learned from the previous year as well as determine what 3rd grade skills students already know. This information will be used to drive our learning this year.
Students have been placed in groups to help them be successful. Each group is receiving individualized instruction based on their learning needs.
We will be reading, "A Fine, Fine School" in our brand new Journey's textbook and learning about Complete Subjects and Predicates.

Week of 8/25/14
This week, we are reading, "The Trial of Cardigan Jones." Students loved reading this tale about a missing pie, a clumsy moose, and a wise judge. Through this text, we learned how to draw conclusions. We discovered that we have to use the evidence in the text and our prior knowledge to come to a conclusion about what is happening in a text.
In Grammar, we learned about the 4 kinds of sentences. They are Imperative, Declarative, Exclamatory, and Interrogative. Ask your child to give you an example of each kind at home.
Due to our new Groups, Classes A and B have Reading on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (50 minutes). Classes C and D have Reading on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (50 minutes). It is IMPERATIVE that children complete their homework packets each week. Homework is PRACTICE of what we do in class. If they are not routinely practicing, it is difficult for them to retain the skills that we are learning. I greatly need your support in this matter.
